A mechanical seal means a device for preventing liquid leakage by at least a pair of end surfaces which are perpendicular to the rotating axis and maintained in jointing and sliding towards each other under the liquid pressure, the spring force (or magnetic force) of a compensation mechanism and an auxiliary seal.

Classifying by whether the static ring is inside or outside the sealing end surface: built-in type and built-out type.
Classifying by the leakage direction of the sealed medium: inward flow type and outward flow type.
Classifying by the unloading of the medium at the end surface: balance type and non-balance type.
Classifying by the number of sealing end surface: Single-surface type and Double-surface type.
Classifying by the number of springs: single-spring type and multi-spring type.
Classifying by the spring element: spring compressed type and bellows type.
